How do you want to feel today?

Hi Yogis,

I am sure you’ve probably heard me say “set your intention” at the start of a class. And I don’t know about you but that was super confusing for me when I first heard it. So I wanted to share a little bit about that today with you.

What is an intention?

Well, if you’re a dictionary person, here’s the official definition: “what one intends to do or bring about” (according to Merriam-Webster)

And here’s what I think… When I am on my mat my intention is usually one of these 2 statements.

1. What can I let go of today that no longer serves me. (Usually its something that made me a little cranky)

2. What do I want to get out of my practice today.

When to set an intention?

Anytime! You don’t have to wait for a yoga class...or January 1st!...to set an intention. You can wake up tomorrow and set an intention for the day. Shoot, you can take a moment right now as you’re reading this and set an intention for the rest of your day. You can do it ANYTIME!

Why set an intention?

Simply put: It helps keep you focused. The intention you set in the beginning of class is the perfect thing to use to help you through Savasana. Next time your mind begins to wonder at the end of class simply whisper your intention to yourself and focus on your breath.

Want a place to test this out?
